Why use a marker float and how do you set it up.Well on large open waters without the use of a fishfinder to tell you what the bottom looks like these are the cheap alternative.
A marker float set up will allow you to gauge the depth of your chosen fishing lake, pond, gravel pit etc.
Also you can use it as a target for your groundbait, boilies or loosefeed and if you set the marker float up correctly it can also tell you a lot about the bottom ie are you fishing over sand ,gravel or weed.
The marker float set up is straight forward you need a large buoyant float orange for dark water and a black one for when the sun is shining off the water surface. Matt uses total fishing gear grunt braid - as we all know there is very little stretch with braid so it is much better than normal fishing line for transmitting every little vibration from the bottom all the way up your line. The lead is attatched on a 6 inch piece of line to a large diameter ring which will allow the main line to run through it freely. The rod is important try the total fishing gear marker rod they need to be 12ft long strong with a flexible tip and a fast action to it.
